I am a mother of two girls, aged 6 and 9 years. Most of my time and energy is spent in keeping them emotionally, mentally, and physically healthy. After all these years of raising them, with some expertise and a greater degree of conviction, I can safely say that raising healthy kids is the topmost priority in one’s parenting journey.

I have many times through my blog posts conveyed ways in which I take care of my children’s emotional and mental health; but I have not shared my views on the physical aspect.

When I began my parenting journey, I used to research a lot related to this and found out that children’s nutrition may have life-long consequences. And that their activity levels along with a healthy diet is what will determine their bone and muscle health in their adult life. An overall healthy and balanced diet in the early years was found to have a positive association with physical parameters eg height, and weight. (source)

The Dilemma of Nutrition Drinks

Now my daughters are extremely active and love their food. They are what we call foodies! A major chunk of my parenting journey revolves around choosing between the temptation and the healthier option available. I try, and on most occasions succeed in feeding them beans, whole grains, leafy vegetables, and eggs. But sometimes their demands are wrapped in dollops of cuteness. I just give in.

For instance, as soon as we approach the end of the year, they start asking for drinks like Hot Chocolate. While Mumbai never really experiences winters, the fact it is the end of the year is a good enough reason for them to hound me for a cup of hot chocolate during the evenings.

Initially, I saw no harm in taking them out to a cafe during weekends and letting them sip a cup of hot Chocolate. Then I started buying hot chocolate bottles and making them at home. It kept them happy and me-sane. My husband is a sailor and because of that, I raise my girls single-handedly for most of the year. So yes, sanity is important to me. So is my kid’s health.

However, the occasional hot chocolate turned into a frequent demand. The girls started asking for it more often. I started refusing them more often which led them to consistently craving for it. They started telling me that Mumma you always say no!

I sensed the urgency to find a nutrition drink that could be made at home. Something appealing and nutritious at the same time.

And thus, began my search for one that suited the taste buds of my children.

The Research for Raising Healthy Kids

I researched and learnt that children have greater protein requirements. I was giving them milk in the evenings but they did not like the plain taste. They would not drink a full glass of milk. I think my sink drank more milk than my daughters! I browsed several websites where information regarding nutrition for kids was mentioned at length.

Most importantly, I browsed through several testimonials of mothers on a nutrition drink that could be made at home. It was then that I stumbled upon Complan. I was reminded of my yesteryears when I used to run around the house shouting, I am a Complan girl!

The Eureka Moment!

I had Complan as a child, and today I am happy to know that it contains 34 vital nutrients including 100% milk protein and is fortified with vitamins and minerals that support the nutrition of growing kids. It has 63% more protein than other nutrition drinks.

The Solution

I bought Complan from the local Kirana store which was another relief. I didn’t have to place the order online in advance and wait. I told my girls, if they wanted hot chocolate then this healthier version is what I have to offer. I lucked out because they loved the taste of Complan.

I am happy that I have finally found a nutrition drink that can be made at home, is delicious, and can support the nutritional requirements of my children.

While they do not run around the house squealing, I am a Complan girl! like I used to, we do have our Complan evenings. Life has come full circle.

Alternatively, you may also try an Almond milk drink. It is healthy and tasty. Otherwise, Complan is personally my fav.. especially it’s Chocolate flavour!
